The obvious details, brand and line name, are the least useful part of a band if you are trying to verify anything. What actually matters is further down: a factory code, a box date, sometimes a specific batch or vitola designation printed in a smaller typeface along the edge. These are the details a distributor or retailer checks against their own paperwork before a box ever reaches a shelf.
A band that has been reprinted, reglued, or swapped onto a different cigar entirely usually shows in the small details first, ink saturation that does not match the rest of the printing, a factory code that does not correspond to a real production run, glue lines that sit slightly off from the paper’s natural crease. None of this requires special equipment to check. It requires knowing what you are looking at, and looking.
We check this on every release before it is listed, the same way a retailer checks a distributor’s paperwork. It is not a guarantee against every possible fake, but it rules out the sloppy ones, which is most of them.
